When Simoco Radio Limited wanted to supply an Arabic version of their SRP8000 portable radio and found that obtaining an LCD controller/driver with Arabic characters from their existing supplier was going to take too long and cost too much, Hidalgo:

• recommended an alternative LCD controller/driver with support for sufficient software generated characters
• specified the user presentation required for Arabic text and numbers
• enhanced the embedded software to work with the new LCD controller driver and to support both software generated Arabic characters and masked English characters
• helped Simoco to integrate the modified display board
• retested the resulting software in both conventional and trunked forms
